Parallel Truths, presented by Reader Nation, is a multi-genre graphic novel anthology that explores the moment when reality fractures and multiple versions of truth exist simultaneously. Twelve original stories — from science fiction to horror, fantasy to romance, thriller to historical — paired with comic-book artists from around the world.
My contribution, First Knight, is a medieval love story. As intriguing as it sounds, I am not pivoting to graphic novels. But when the opportunity arrived to write a story in this form alongside writers I admire enormously, it was impossible not to jump in.
My Story
First Knight is the story of Jocelyn, who at sixteen accepts an arranged marriage to a knight bound for the Crusades. Never saw him. He was only a name on a contract. Until, six years later, her “dead” husband rode up the road.
What follows involves colluding monks, a rich estate, cats, a would-be “champion,” and a joust Jocelyn never agreed to be the prize of.
